French Morocco Fireball 6-23-45

“. . . My new boss (I am CO no longer), Lt Lense, met a very nice (African meaning) girl and arranged to take her home.  They started off with Lt Miller and drove down for a look at the beach.  While they were there, Lt Miller got angry and threw Jack (Lense) and his girl out of the car.  Then Miller refused to let them back in the car and drove off.  It is ten kilos from the beach to the station so Jack and the girl slept and froze on the beach all night.  Under the provisions for certain medals in Africa, he may get the Purple Heart or the Soldier's Medal for that valiant service under hazardous conditions.”
