HLS Letters
HLS on post-war apathy 3-22-45". . . One of the most depressing characteristics of the guys around me is their attitude that they have absolutely nothing to do with their world and its control. They will return, settle down in their hometown, raise hell annually at the Veterans Convention, and continue to leave the governing of the country to the politician class and the more powerful and richer lobbies. And we will be raving and ranting at another insane, aggressing dictator in a few years. I wouldn't be nearly so annoyed by it, except that I, like everyone else I know, don't know how to do anything about it. I see that we could be a powerful lobby, for peace or war, but I don't know how to bring it about. And I'm not sure I wouldn't curse myself in a few years when the lobby gets us into trouble. . .
